CHOSEN TFC - an overview
CHILDREN OF SPECIAL & EXCEPTIONAL NEED...that's what CHOSEN stands for. The program provides family-based Treatment Foster Care (TFC) for children and youth who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or some other childhood trauma and require more than the basic care, support, love and nurturing that regular foster care or other less restrictive placements provide. CHOSEN trains, supports and supervises professional foster parents to provide treatment aimed at healing the trauma and teaching new coping skills. Administered from our Columbia, Maryland office and funded by the Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR), the actual work is done within family homes in the community.
CHOSEN youngsters range in age from 0 to 21 years, with the average age of 13-17. These children have been removed from their families by a local Department of Social Services (DSS) due to physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and/or some other childhood trauma. Most CHOSEN youths struggle with mental health issues and/or developmental delays. Referrals come from Maryland DSS agencies.
