Baptist Family & Children's Services

Begun as the Baptist Children's Home of Maryland, Inc., the agency initially had nine trustees with Willoughby McCormick as President. Mr. McCormick also founded the McCormick Spice Company of Baltimore.

The first board meeting was held on October 22, 1920. The agency "opened for business" on March 15, 1921.

In a pre-depression, pre-welfare America, BFCS worked to give "to the children in its care the atmosphere of a normal, private Christian home, with the influences and safeguards there found."

Since that decision to keep kids in private homes and out of orphanages, BFCS has committed itself to keeping families together and, when necessary, taking care of kids in familial settings through Treatment Foster Care.

Through the 20th century and into the 21st, BFCS has committed its time, talents and resources to giving kids and families a new start.
